Removal of Antibiotics from Real Hospital Wastewater by Cold Plasma Technique

چکیده
Hospital wastewater contains a complex mixture of bioactive substances and microorganisms that are deleterious to humans aquatic animals. In this study, four antibiotics, namely, ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, cefuroxime, amoxicillin, respectively, from the seven hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, were monitored. The results revealed these is contaminated with at least one antibiotics. addition, degradation capacity antibiotics by treatment plant cold plasma technique was investigated. Furthermore, effects variation pH, interelectrode distance, applied voltage, reaction time on removal efficiency investigated terms reduction concentration, COD, ammonia. Ciprofloxacin, ammonia almost eliminated, while ofloxacin amoxicillin reduced more than 72% under optimum conditions (initial pH 10, 15 min, voltage 30 kV, distance 10 mm). All factors affected efficiency. most robust first 5 it increased increase time. However, tended saturate over time, decreased With an kV onwards, not significantly different. Most pollutants predominately eliminated slightly alkaline (pH ?10). primary oxidants aqueous phase, such as O3, H2O2, ?OH, generated. Besides, obtained also decomposition ciprofloxacin cefuroxime follows first-order kinetics; meanwhile, third-order kinetics likely for amoxicillin.

Efficiency of the Electrocoagulation Process with Iron and Aluminum Electrodes Regarding the Removal of Cefazolin Antibiotics from the Hospital Wastewater
Introduction and purpose: One of the problems of hospital effluents is the presence of drug residues, including antibiotics, which if not completely eliminated, will be diverted to water resources and lead to health and environmental problems. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the efficacy of the electrocoagulation process with iron and aluminum electrodes in the removal of cef...

متن کاملRemoval of Surfactants from wastewater by Rice Husk
Surfactants are one of the major components (10- 18%) of detergents and household cleaning products and are used in high volumes in developed countries. In the present research work, the ability of rice husk as a low cost adsorbent for anionic and nonionic surfactants in wastewater has been studied. The maximum removal efficiency for anionic surfactants was 97%, in an aqueous solu...

Introduction: As the most hazardous sewage, hospital wastewater contains various contaminants, and its uncontrolled discharge can seriously damage the environment. Bandar Abbas is located in an arid and semi-arid region therefore, hospital wastewater should be treated through an appropriate and economic method. This study aimed to determine the efficiency of electrocoagulation with aluminum and...
متن کاملRemoval of veterinary antibiotics from sequencing batch reactor (SBR) pretreated swine wastewater by Fenton's reagent.
The large-scale application of veterinary antibiotics in livestock industry makes swine wastewater an important source of antibiotics pollution. This work investigated the degradation of six selected antibiotics, including five sulfonamides and one macrolide, by Fenton's reagent in swine wastewater pretreated with sequencing batch reactor (SBR). The dosing mode and practical dosage of Fenton's ...
